Privacy policy

Last updated 25 September 2026. This policy explains how Sailing Dad handles personal information under the Privacy Act 2020.

Who we are

Sailing Dad is the club at 21 Adams Avenue, Mount Maunganui, Tauranga 3116, New Zealand. This page is part of our official website at sailingdad.co.nz. For privacy questions, email [email protected].

What we collect

We collect only what we need to run a hire, a lesson, or a club day.

  • Your name, email address, and phone number if you give one.
  • An emergency contact, when you hire a boat or join a lesson.
  • Whether you can swim, and a short note of your sailing experience, so we can match a boat and a briefing to you.
  • The message you send from the contact page or by email.
  • A record of the booking: the boat, the gear, the date, and the amount paid at the clubhouse.

Payment is taken at the clubhouse. This website does not store card numbers.

Why we collect it

We use this information to answer an enquiry, confirm a booking, fit a lifejacket, reach you if the weather changes, and keep a record of who took a boat out. We also use it if we have to follow up on damaged or missing kit.

We use experience and swimming ability to decide whether a hire is safe. That is a safety purpose, not a marketing list.

Who sees it

Club staff and the instructor or duty officer for your day can see the booking details they need. We share information with a rescue service or the harbourmaster if there is an emergency on the water.

We do not sell personal information. We do not pass it to advertisers.

How long we keep it

Booking and hire records are kept for 24 months, then deleted, unless we still need them for a dispute, an insurance claim, or another legal duty. An enquiry that does not become a booking is deleted after 12 months.

Cookies

This website does not use tracking cookies, analytics, or advertising tags. The pages store nothing in your browser. The contact form opens an email to the club. It does not send the message to a server of ours.

The contact page embeds a Google Map. Loading that map can send your IP address to Google. If you prefer not to load it, use the address and the “Open in Google Maps” link, or email us.

Access, correction, and complaints

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct it. Email [email protected] with the name on the booking.

If you are unhappy with our reply, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
